Duplex Doppler Ultrasound of Deep Cavernosal Artery of the Penis: Variation of Peak Velocity According to Sampling Laction

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the variation of peak velocities of deep cavernosal arteries according to sampling loeation in duplex Doppler ultrasound of the penis duplex doppler ultrasound was performed following an injection of
prostaglandin Elinto a corpus cavernosum in 32 patients with erectile dysfunction. Doppler spectrum was obtained at two points in each deep cavernosal artery, one at the most proximal point the other at the most distal visible point in the
straight
course of the artery in penile shaft .The average peak velocities at proximal portion was 40.15cm/sec on right side, 37.83cm/sec on left side. And 39.02cm/sec on both sides. Those at distal portion were 21.41cm/sec on right. 17.88cm/sec on left
,and
19.64% on both sides. The % ratio of peak veloity at distai portion devided by that at proximal portion was 55.2% on right, 48.0% on left, and 51.6% on both sides.
The authors conclude that the peak velocities of deep cavernosal arteries are variable according to its Doppler sampling location and that the sampling location should be standardized and clarified when one perform duplex Doppler ultrasound of
deep
cavernosal arteries.
